Dr. Travis Thomas, PhD, RD, CSSD will review the key points of the AND, DC, ACSM Joint Position Statement on Nutrition and Athletic Performance. Nancy Clark MS RD CSSD will present ways that fitness professionals can teach their clients how to effectively use food to fuel both workouts and competition.

Dr. Thomas is an Associate Professor of Clinical & Sports Nutrition in the College of Health Sciences and Director of the Undergraduate Certificate Program in Nutrition for Human Performance at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Thomas has more than nine years of experience conducting human studies involving nutrition and exercise interventions across the lifespan. Dr. Thomas has held multiple national leadership positions for the practice group SCAN and was honored to serve as the lead author representing the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for the joint position paper “Nutrition and Athletic Performance” published in 2016 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Dietitians of Canada. Dr. Thomas is board certified as a specialist in sports dietetics (CSSD) and a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Nancy Clark is an internationally respected sports nutritionist, weight coach, nutrition author, and workshop leader. She is a registered dietitian who specializes in nutrition for exercise, health, and the nutritional management of eating disorders. She is board certified as a specialist in sports dietietics (CSSD) and a certified WellCoach. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American College of Sports Medicine. Nancy completed her undergraduate degree in nutrition from Simmons College, her dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital, and her graduate degree in nutrition with a focus on exercise physiology from Boston University.

The Wheat Foods Council is a nonprofit organization formed in 1972 to help increase public awareness of wheat foods, complex carbohydrates, and fiber as essential components of a healthful diet. The Council is supported voluntarily by wheat producers, millers, bakers, and related industries.
