It has long been known that physical activity is important in the glycemic and health management of people with type 2 diabetes. It is also well established that being active may prevent or delay diabetes onset and reverse prediabetes. This presentation will cover the main evidence supporting its role in diabetes management and prevention, along with covering the most important activities for adults with type 2 diabetes to undertake.

Presented by Sheri Colberg, PhD, FACSM

Sheri Colberg, PhD, FACSM, is an author, lecturer, consultant, researcher, exercise physiologist, and professor emerita of exercise science from Old Dominion University. A graduate of Stanford University, University of California, Davis, and Cal Berkeley, she has specialized in researching diabetes and exercise, aging, and healthy lifestyles and is a renowned global thought leader. She chaired a position stand on "Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes" jointly for the American College of Sports Medicine and American Diabetes Association in 2010 and another titled "Physical Activity/Exercise and Diabetes" for the ADA in 2016, as well as co-chaired a recent consensus statement for ACSM on physical activity and type 2 published in late Fall 2021.

She has authored 12 books, over 450 articles, and 34 book chapters on physical activity, diabetes, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, successful aging, and more. She also founded Diabetes Motion, a free educational website, as well as Diabetes Motion Academy, which offers educational programs for fitness professionals and others. In 2016, she was honored with a prestigious national award, the ADA Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award. Finally, she has over 53 years' worth of practical experience living well with type 1 diabetes. An avid recreational exerciser, she enjoys swimming, biking, walking and hiking, fitness machines, weight training, and other activities.
