Female soccer has seen a substantial rise in participation, as well as increased financial support from governing bodies over the last decade. Thus, there is an onus on researchers and medical departments to develop a better understanding of the physical characteristics, and the health and performance considerations of female soccer player. This presentation will discuss the current research, as well as the knowledge gaps related to the health and nutrition needs of female players.

Learning Objectives:  

  • To gain an understanding on the health considerations for female soccer players
  • To learn about the nutritional recommendations which can be applied to female soccer players
  • To understand the knowledge gaps in the existing literature

Presented by Dr. Rebecca Randell

Dr. Rebecca Randell is a scientist with a background in exercise physiology and sports nutrition. Rebecca earned her bachelor's degree and her Ph.D from the University of Birmingham, UK. Her thesis investigated nutrition interventions and fat oxidation rates during exercise. Rebecca is now an Associate Principle Scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) working in the High Performance Application team. Rebecca also oversees the Sports Science Exchange articles which are housed on www.GSSIweb.org. Rebecca is passionate about sports nutrition and has experience managing and supporting GSSI service engagements globally. She also enjoys working with athletes to design appropriate and personalized nutritional strategies and has extensive experience working with elite athletes and clubs such Olympic badminton players, FC Barcelona and Manchester City FC. She continues to author publications in peer reviewed journals and deliver invited presentations in the UK and abroad.
