Industry-Presented Webinar: Promoting the Physical Activity Guidelines

This webinar covers the public health guidelines for physical activity and how to make sure your clients are getting enough activity to support their health.  Google Fit will present the science and metrics that can be used for tracking activity.  EXOS will present the application of this metric in a training scenario.

Learning Objectives:

  • Reframe the importance of physical activity and its benefits to our clients.
  • Make the key recommendations for physical activity guidelines more actionable.
  • Understand the options to measure the intensity of physical activity.
  • Design novel programming for your clients using Heart Points as a guiding metric.

Presenter Bios:

Tristan Rice

Tristan Rice has worked with EXOS since 2008. During his time with EXOS he has worked with athletes of myriad sports, and various levels including Olympic, professional, amateur, recreational, and youth athletes in addition to over five years of work with the general population. Tristan began his involvement with the education department in the Spring of 2011 and came on to the education team full-time in the Winter of 2015. He has taught in over a dozen countries, on six continents. Tristan studied Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Exercise Science at California State University Northridge.

Kapil Parakh, M.D.

Kapil Parakh is a practicing cardiologist who serves as the Medical Lead for Google Fit. He helped lead the redesign of the app, working with the World Health Organization and the American Heart Association to incorporate their scientific recommendations into the product. Before joining Google, Kapil was a White House Fellow and served as principal health advisor to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. He is also the co-founder of an award-winning non-profit on health innovation. He was previously Director of Heart Failure at Johns Hopkins Bayview where he developed novel care delivery models. As a clinician-scientist he has published over 35 papers, many on psychosocial factors in heart disease. Kapil is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Advanced Heart Failure and holds a M.D., M.P.H and Ph.D.
