ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal®: January - February 2024 CEC Course #2: Low- and High-Glycemic Index Food

1 CEC

By Stella Lucia Volpe, Ph.D., RDN, FACSM, ACSM-CEP

Low and high glycemic index foods seem to have different benefits for different types of exercise performance. Based on the research presented in this Nutritionist’s View column, it appears that low glycemic index foods are better to consume prior to longer duration events, while high glycemic index foods seem to fare better for shorter distances and intermittent activities. Nonetheless, these statements are broad, and even within the articles presented, there were variations. These variations certainly depended on how the food was given (bar or meal), how much was consumed, when the food was provided, and what type of activity was performed.

This course includes an online article from ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal® and a corresponding online quiz. All course content will be presented to you electronically after your purchase. To earn your CECs, you must view the course content and pass the quiz (earning a 70% or better).
