Annual Meeting 2023 | Unanticipated Targets: New Evidence that Metformin and SGLT2 Inhibitors Regulate Skeletal Muscle Metabolism
1CEC
Metformin and SGLT2 inhibitors are widely used to treat insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. However, this course explores new evidence regarding the impact of such drugs on skeletal muscle health and function, including how metformin treatment can regulate myogenesis and mitochondrial function during aging and muscle disuse, new evidence explaining how SGLT2 inhibitors can improve skeletal muscle insulin action, and exploration of whether SGLT2 inhibitor treatment augments or impairs skeletal muscle adaptations to exercise.
