This course includes 26 individual lessons with recorded voice lecture, a short unit quiz at the end of each lesson to help with retention of the material covered, and a final 125 question comprehensive exam.

Lessons will cover a range of topics including, but not limited to, basic review of anatomy and bioenergetics, disability advocacy, initial client consultations, exercise adaptations, adaptive training protocols, and other disability specifics that are relevant to understanding proper inclusive exercise prescription and implementation.

Learning Objectives:

1.Understand the need to address issues in the field of health, exercise, and fitness as it relates to people with disabilities.

2.Become familiar with inclusive standards for fitness centers including RESNA (IF), ADA and Universal Design.

3.Develop skills necessary to accommodate people with disabilities.

4.Develop an understanding of how exercise prescription and application differs between different disability groups.

The contents of this course were developed under a grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR grant number 90DPGE0005).  NIDILRR is a Center within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  The contents of this course do not necessarily represent the policy of NIDILRR, ACL, or HHS, and you should not assume endorsement by the Federal Government.

The ACSM/NCHPAD Inclusive Fitness Specialist specialty certification was sunset at the end of May 2023.  While an NCCA-accredited certification or a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation Therapy or Adapted Physical Education is no longer required, it is recommended to ensure successful completion and implementation of the course material. This course is now an educational certificate. ACSM's educational certificates in specialized fields empower exercise professionals to effectively address unique considerations in their practice. These certificates validate the completion of advanced training, enhancing career opportunities by showcasing expertise to employers and the communities they support.

This course includes online videos and corresponding online quizzes. 

All course content will be presented to you electronically upon completion of your purchase.
