"Picture a Scientist" Panel Discussion
September 22 | 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. EDT

Female and minority scientists in the U.S. continue to face harassment, gender and racial bias and institutional discrimination at different stages in their careers. The eye-opening documentary, Picture a Scientist paints a real-life portrait of these struggles through personal stories and data. The film seeks to raise visibility around the critical issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in science and challenge viewers to move toward change.
Watch the documentary and then join a panel of ACSM members as they seek to expand the conversation more broadly. Panelists will share their reaction to the documentary; discuss topics like internal misogyny, pulling up the ladder, the role of allies and strategies to change the culture, and take questions from attendees. You don’t want to miss this exclusive members-only opportunity.
Note: A link to the documentary will be emailed to registrants prior to the panel discussion, so they can view the film in advance.

Learning Objectives: 1. Increase awareness of discriminatory behavior that women and minorities in science and medicine experience at different stages of their careers. 2. Engage in honest and transparent dialogue to advance the conversation around equity in science and medicine. 3. Discuss strategies to bring peers and leaders into the conversation. 4. Increase knowledge of personal rights and available resources for filing a discrimination report.
