Industry-Presented Webinar: Energy Demands and Nutrition Considerations for Adolescent Athletes
October 10, 2024 | 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. ET
Free Webinar
1.0 ACSM CEC

Presented by:

This webinar will provide an overview of the physiological demands faced by adolescent athletes and how these demands translate into their daily energy (caloric) requirements. Attendees will learn how to use resting metabolic rate (RMR) to assess the daily energy requirements of adolescent athletes and how to predict RMR using validated models. General nutrition recommendations regarding carbohydrate and protein intake for recovery and performance will also be covered.

Presenter:

Khalil Lee, Ph.D., CSCS

Associate Principal Scientist
Gatorade Sports Science Institute Satellite Lab at IMG Academy

Khalil Lee is an Associate Principal Scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute Satellite Lab at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, where he has served for over nine years. Khalil’s roles include leading and supporting nutrition and hydration-based research on adolescent athletes, as well as developing and delivering key educational content for a variety of audiences in sports and academia. He earned his BS and MS degrees in Sport and Fitness Management from Troy University, where he played two years as a defensive back on the Troy Trojans football team. In 2014, he received his PhD in Kinesiology (Ex Phys) from Auburn University, where he conducted research in the thermal physiology lab under the direction of Dr. David Pascoe. Outside of work, Khalil and his wife enjoy traveling, cooking (and eating) plant-based meals, and documenting their adventures through video content creation.

Learning Objectives:
After participation, the attendee should:
1. Understand the physiological demands adolescent athletes face that separate them from adults and non-active adolescents
2. Understand the importance of energy availability for recovery and physical growth/maturation in adolescent athletes
3. Be better equipped to assess the daily energy (caloric) needs of their adolescent athletes using validated RMR prediction models (without needing expensive laboratory equipment or devices)
