Description
The responsibility of the Health and Science Policy (HSP) Committee is to provide overview of all matters of ACSM that relate to government at the federal, state and local level. The committee sets priorities on handling issues that uniquely affect ACSM’s members. It also recommends broad policy direction to ACSM’s Board of Directors.
The HSP Committee assists ACSM staff in setting a clear strategy for policy issues and serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Directors, which has final decision-making authority. In order to become fully engaged in various policy-related initiatives, all committee members are urged to participate in a range of activities beyond the normal business meetings.
Eligibility
Committee members are members of ACSM and are asked to attend at least 75% of the scheduled meetings each year either in person or by phone. Members are also asked not only to attend ACSM’s annual legislative fly-in, but to recruit participants to attend. Volunteers serving on the committee are also asked to participate in a variety of other ACSM advocacy efforts and events and to encourage colleagues to participate in ACSM advocacy activities.
